It's August in Arnold
After typing the title I realized it has a definite ring to it. Not intended, really! It has really been hot. Hot, not warm. Yesterday it reached 100 for the first time in a few days and it didn't feel that bad. The forecast for the remainder of the month is for above average temperatures. We are already about 2 degrees above the record high average for the month of August. It may not be global warming, but it sure is Arnold warming. As I type we are actually getting some measurable rain (that hasn't happened this month). We are very dry here, though some spots around the Metro (St. Louis) area have had more rain than have we.
I had a good time singing with a quartet at church Sunday evening. Two guys and two gals. It felt good and I think sounded good. We will be working on more for the future, but have the age old problem of trying to get four people together for practice who have other obligations. Hopefully we'll make it work.
I have only recently re-initiated my geneological studies of my ancestors. My back pain that severely limits my car rides put a real damper on me, but I can still do a lot with the internet and information I already have. Going back at it was a psychological hurdle I hope I have now cleared.
Speaking of Arnold (if I wasn't I am now), I still don't understand the sidewalk situation in this town. There is no sidewalk in front of city hall. There is no sidewalk in front of the new Arnold Recreation Center (which itself is beside an Elementary school with no sidewalk). It seems good enough to be required for "most" private development, but not important for public facilities which may be used or passed by children. I wonder if the new Arnold Commons development will have sidewalks on it's aproaches. Only time will tell. The only problem with requiring these sidewalks is that they usually connect to nothing and are essentially unuseable. The city will eventually need to bite the bullet and build sidewalks to make this a real "accessible" community.
