Vicarious Living
My youngest son just returned from a trip out west that included San Diego & Yosemite. He is an excellent diarist (blogger) and photographer. His comments and photos create the yearnings to visit those places myself. Unfortunately I am essentially home bound due to a nerve disability in my back that prevents me from sitting for more than a few minutes at a time. My knees and feet are wearing out. Getting back to the point. I am grateful that all three of my sons are quite good at describing their adventures in an entertaining style. The photos are a bonus.
If readers have parents, or other relatives, who are not able to get around as they would like, do them a favor and tell them about your adventures. Make it a story, not a litany of data. And remember, sometimes a trip to the Grocery Store can be an adventure.
From Arnold: The threat of disaster has passed; at least for Arnold. We received plenty of rain over the past three days, and about 1/4" of ice on trees a couple of days ago, but all has melted and the temperature is in the mid-30's. Now it's just wet and the storm is leaving the area. Great!
The ice is beautiful. The ice is dangerous. The ice can also give amusement. My dog Sam hates the ice; not because it is slippery, but because it's pokey. Is that a real word? Sam & I take a lengthy walk each morning and evening. I have a retractable leash so Sam will wander from the sidewalk to the grass and back constantly. He has to sniff (and mark) everything in our path. However, during this ice storm the ice froze on the individual blades of grass. Same is small and his attempts to walk on the grass to "do his thing" are quite amusing. He will stand on the sidewalk and look at the lawn. He will then lift one paw and just lay it on the grass, testing it. When he finally decides to go onto the grass he walks like he's on a hot griddle. It's like watching someone clean a toilet by hand who really doesn't want to. It won't hurt them, but the effort is really distasteful. Cant' help but laugh. It's great for me. I get my daily dose of humor and exercise that can't help but make me feel better. Unfortunately, my dog knows he's helping me at his expense and will occasionally give me "that look". Oh well! Nothing we do is perfect.
Another day that God hath made! I know where I'm going, do you? Take a look at Hebrews 11:6. At Yosemite my son took a marvelous picture of a tree, hillside and fog. Behind the fog (3/4 of the photo) is a huge mountain that cannot be seen. I know the mountain is there, but if I show the photo to someone who has never seen a mountain, would they be able to believe? Faith is like that; sometimes inscrutible. Think about it.
